Lily Inspiration: Nature

While photographing tees yesterday, Diana noticed a snail hovering on the cement wall near her.

At first she thought it was dead, but when she gently removed it from the wall, she realized it was alive.

We admired the structure and colours of its shell and the delicate movements of its antennae (maybe a snail print would be strange/beautiful?), and then gently placed it on the grass nearby. We got all caught up in the moment and giggled in our childlike state of being in awe of nature. Beauty and joy are everywhere - even on cinderblock walls in driveways - how uplifting!

Too bad we won't be quite so enamoured with the slugs who are soon to creep out onto our wet sidewalks.

It's Raining!

It's raining here on the West Coast. While that's not usually something unusual here on the aptly nicknamed "Wet Coast", I think this morning was one of only 2 times in Vancouver that I have been surprised to hear rain when I woke up! It has been sunny and hot here for weeks, and I guess I just got used to it. Oh complacency, you do make me giggle sometimes...

I'm going to get in trouble for this (sorry Alex!), but I had to post this old shot of our awesome model and friend Diana - braving the elements for us, yet again. I took this photo in 2004 when Diana was a hot blond (now she's a hot brunette). She's wearing a Boatneck Tee with the Periodic Table print and a cotton Skirt of Good Cape (and some cute pink heels!). I know, I know, I said no more torturing with you with photos of Lily items no longer available! But I love that this shot is a cute rain shot.

All you West Coasters have fun jumping puddles (or splashing through them) today!

Deep Pockets Dress

The lovely Bamboo Jersey dress in our all-over Plate print. Great for looking cute or demure, as Diana so sweetly shows us here.

Diana and the Ronstandt Skirt

Diana got the new Ronstandt Skirt swirling today. She's a fun girl, always up for Spring shoots on cold Winter days. Her happy energy fills our store and our clothing with positivity. And she's an inspiring animal rights supporter to boot. Aside from her continuous support of the SPCA and rescue dog organizations, she is always quick to save worms from getting tread on on the sidewalk or spiders and moths from a boring (or worse) fate indoors. Today as I walked across the street absorbed in my own thoughts, she noticed a Pidgeon's nest being knocked out of an awning and insisted on checking it out, and making a comment to the guy who destroyed a nest with an egg in it - while the mother Pidgeon watched. Disturbing. Good thing we had the swingiest skirt to play with and lighten our moods. Thanks Diana!

Many more new Spring items have arrived and are posted on the Smoking Lily website. Have fun perusing the photos, then stroll on in to the shops to feel the wonderful fabrics, see the cuts and prints, and sashay about in the Ronstandt Skirt in person. Yipee!
