The New Market Dress, a shorter version of the Market Dress now comes in new colours! The previous grey has sold out and to replace them we have found some more turquoise, and an amazing organic "passion" pink and black. If you don't already own one of these dresses I would highly recommend it! You will not find a more comfortable, not too fally downy (you know what I mean), flattering and easy to wear dress. Not to mention how unique it is! Whether you are beach lounging, grocery shopping or going to your that wedding, it's perfect.

One last hint
Okay...some of you only have two people out of place! Trade them, and you're set! I didn't think it would be such an issue, but everyone thinks that Trish's Dad is Barry... This is not the case! That was your last clue. Good luck!

That's not my Dad!
Everyone is doing a fantastic job trying to guess our dads! None of you have quite got there yet though....Keep trying! (Please continue posting your answers in the photo contest post, and not here.) There are way more correct answers than when we did the Mother's day Photo contest. I will give you guys a hint....most of you got Steph and her dad Rob right! Maybe that will help?! I hope you all had a wonderful father's day yesterday!

Father's Day Photo Contest! AKA "Who's your Daddy?"
Hey everyone, we hope you had fun with our Mother's Day photo contest, because here is our Father's Day version! If you can correctly match the Lily (shown in the lower two rows of photos) to the Dad (top two rows of photos) and get all of them right, you win a $100 Smoking Lily gift certificate! The first person to guess correctly wins! We have tried to get photos that look a little more like our dads than the photos we used for our moms....the mom one was hard! This one has it's challenges as well...but I'd say a good hint is to really analyze facial features! Have fun, and Happy Father's day! (Maybe you should use that gift certificate for a new T-shirt for dad...?)

Weekly Wrap Up
Ahhhh...it is almost time to go home and crack open a beer, but first I must tell you what we did around the studio this week. Nicole worked on a new dress, its coming slowly though. It is sleeveless, V-neck, pockets, princess seems and it almost there. It just needs that little something something that I'm sure we will figure out next week.
We made a new bike bag using the reverse side of red denim, plus we printed it with a new vintage bike print, (Devon is wearing it with the Calamity Jane in eyelet). New feather pillow forms arrived today for the pillow covers we made yesterday. We have two new style of tees, a baby doll and a Mama Cass inspired tee. Plus Trish and Korinne worked on our secret project that will reveal in the next couple of weeks.(It is so exciting).
My photos kinda suck so I've added a picture that I took last weekend when I was Vancouver. The evil happy guy cracked me up. I'm sure Glenda will be taking better shots of all the clothing next week and placing them up on our site. Email us if you want more info and have a great weekend!

My work experience at Smoking Lily
My name is Melissa, I am sixteen years old and live on Salt Spring Island
My past few weeks here at Smoking Lily have been anything but dull. This has been one of the most exciting and knowledgeable experiences I have ever had!
I did all sorts of fun things like silk-screening and cutting out fabrics. They let me wear their beautiful hand sewn clothing and I was a salesperson in the tiny Smoking Lily store located on Johnson Street.
The Studio where they make all their clothing is a fun and hip environment to work in. It's located above the "Pita Pit" in a Heritage building. The interior is funky and vintage with so much to see you don't know where to look first.
I'd encourage anyone who is interested in fashion design and sewing, and happens to need work experience, to check out Smoking Lily; It is definitely a great place to be. I felt comfortable and learned a lot about what it's like to be a part of the retail fashion industry.
I feel so thankful and lucky to have done my work experience here, with inspirational people and a creative company.

It's Hot
Oh my goodness, it is so hot here right now. We've been busy and with the heat we have neglected our blog. There are a few things we have been working on this past week. We found some beautiful white eyelet lurking in the back corner and have decided to make some of the Calamity Jane's. We have just cut a huge load of Clover Point Smocks and they should be ready in a few days. Fabric was ordered this week for a new black sleeveless summer frock (it's all about the LBD) and Nicole is just finishing up the High Tide Pants in 70's Denim. We bought and washed 45 men's shirts and Steph is making more John Wayne's and Korrine just finished the first run of chocolate brown Ampersand Tunics, so pretty. We sold out of the Market Dress but found a new cotton jersey to replace it plus we shortened it to knee length. Glenda is taking photos of all the new stock tonight and the should be posted on the site tomorrow.
Cheers
Trish
