This Sunday is Mother's Day, and it would be a lie to say my mother doesn't inspire me. My Mom is the reason that I was able to realize my passion for sewing!
She always knows which way a woman's top should button up (right over left of course) that using the straight of grain is actually quite important ("Fine Nicole, you try it and see what happens..") She also knows how to finish the corners nicely when binding the edges of a quilt. This awesome technique lead me to develop a new easy and time saving way of attaching bias tape to our new Lucrezia Dress!
She didn't like it when I messed up the tension and broke all the needles in her serger, cut into the bolt of fabric that she had been planning to make something from, or used her sewing scissors to cut pipe cleaners. Yet Despite all these things (that I now know are completely infuriating) I know she loves and supports what I do. I am very grateful for the bond we have, sharing a love for sewing. Happy Mother's Day Mom, I love you!
Click on this image to link to a video that I found when Wikipedia-ing Mother's Day. There are actually some quite interesting facts about different celebrations of women and mother's all over the world. This video was taking in the Netherlands on Mother's Day in 1925.
